SARS-CoV-2 Antibody Test Information (COVID-19)

What is being tested? COVID-19, also known as SARS-CoV-2, is a virus which causes severe acute respiratory syndrome. Antibodies are produced by the body in repsonse to antigens (foreign proteins), which are unique to each type of infectious organism.
How is it used? The test will provide a preliminary test result on whether SARS-CoV-2 antibodies are present in the blood sample. The test allows post-infection or vaccination antibody screening. Doctors can advise immediate healthcare actions depending on the results.
What does the test result mean? A positive result indicates that SARS-CoV-2 antibodies are present in the blood sample, indicating exposure to COVID-19. These antibodies can also be found after successful vaccination.
What is the sample required? A lancet prick of the finger to get a drop of blood. For international travellers, a blood sample drawn from a vein in your arm may be required.
Is test preparation needed? No.
Where can I get tested? Talk to your GP.
Antibody tests are used to detect infectious diseases. The SARS-CoV-2 Antibody blood test gives a doctor preliminary information about the effect of an adminstered COVID-19 vaccine. Doctors can advise immediate healthcare actions depending on the results.

The antibody tests will not replace the current PCR test for COVID-19. The two would work in unison to make diagnosis more effective.

  • Screen the “close contacts” who are undergoing quarantine

The test allows medical professionals to obtain immediate antibody results post-vaccination antibody screening or for post-infection patients.
This PoC antibody test is not intended for self-testing. They are designed to be used by a health professional.
